Nepal PM Urges Nation to 'Stand Together' After Deadly Flood
Rescuers searched for nearly 500 missing people as authorities said the flood damaged bridges and stranded 403 tourists, including 341 foreigners.
On Wednesday, a massive flash flood originating in Tibet swept through central Nepal, killing at least 98 people and leaving nearly 500 missing.
Surging through the Bhote Koshi River at 9 am, the flood devastated infrastructure across Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, and Chitawan districts along the Nepal-Tibet border.
The Nepal Tourism Board confirmed 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals, were unaccounted for; pilgrims from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, including 105 Indians and 37 NRIs, are among the missing.
Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah urged unity, stating, "The government takes full responsibility for your rescue, treatment, food and shelter." Officials allocated 100 hospital beds in Kathmandu for injured victims.
Expressing solidarity, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal," as teams coordinate closely on rescue and relief efforts.
