Nanaimo native once again takes Canadian hammer throw title
The Nanaimo native won with an 81.13-meter throw and secured his spot on Canada’s 2026 Commonwealth Games team.
- Nanaimo native Ethan Katzberg secured his fourth consecutive Canadian Track and Field Championships hammer throw title in Ottawa on Saturday, June 20, with a best throw of 81.13 metres.
- A Paris 2024 Summer Olympics gold medalist, Katzberg trains at Kamloops Track and Field Club and is a two-time World Athletics Championships winner with recent international success.
- Katzberg stated, "It took a little bit to get into it," and added it "feels good competing in Ottawa," where his winning 81.13-metre throw came on his sixth attempt.
- Rowan Hamilton of Richmond finished second, while Lethbridge, Alta., native Andreas Troschke took third place in the competition.
- Canada announced yesterday that Katzberg will represent the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, running from July 23 to August 2.
