Seven arrested on suspicion of murder following death of newborn baby in Sheffield
Seven people were arrested as detectives said the investigation is in its early stages and officers are working to determine the ages of some suspects.
South Yorkshire Police launched a murder investigation in Sheffield yesterday after a newborn baby girl died at a property in the Wincobank area.
Officers arrived at a Holywell Heights property in Wincobank on Sunday at approximately 06:00 BST following reports of concern for the baby's safety, but she was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics' efforts.
Seven people were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident, all remaining in police custody while officers work to determine the ages of some of those detained.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight stated the investigation is in its early stages, urging the public to "avoid speculating about this incident" while assuring communities a dedicated team is working to secure justice.
