Joaquim Miranda Sarmento reported, in an interview tonight to SIC News, that if there is a surplus, this "will always be relatively small", hoping to get in 2026 "to the limit a zero balance" in public accounts.
Minister of Finance says that public accounts will end the year with at least one zero balance, even with the IRS reduction measures and the extraordinary supplement of pensions costing 800 million.
Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento said today that he expects "at least one zero balance" in the accounts of 2026, ensuring that the country has "the necessary robustness" to apply the supplement for pensioners and the relief of the IRS.
Miranda Sarmento states that if no extraordinary event occurs, the executive will be able to "keep public accounts balanced, with debt reduction".
The Minister of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, was the guest of the SIC Night Edition News on the day that Parliament led the motion put forward by the Government PSD/CDS-PP, following the polemics involving the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves.
