Marysville’s Black Squirrel Tradition Keeps Growing

Marysville's tradition of the black squirrel began in 1969 when businessman Bill Strange proposed it after visiting Olney, Illinois. By 1972, the black squirrel was named the official mascot, leading to the establishment of Black Squirrel Day. Recently, the Black Squirrels on Parade public art project expanded the community engagement with this mascot, featuring unique statues around town.
