Manitoba RCMP investigating death of young girl, two others sent to hospital
Two toddlers were hospitalized in stable condition as RCMP major crime services took over the investigation into the suspicious death.
On Sunday, a four-year-old girl died and two toddlers were hospitalized at a home in Long Plain First Nation, prompting the RCMP to launch a suspicious death investigation.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers responded to the home around 8 a.m. Sunday after first responders reported a young child in medical distress with injuries.
The two injured children, girls aged one and two, were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition, while the four-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the "suspicious nature" of the incident, the Manitoba RCMP major crime services unit assumed the investigation, with Rob Lasson, the officer in charge, calling it "extremely troubling."
Lasson stated the community "will be searching for answers as to what occurred within this household," adding that the RCMP is coordinating closely with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service and community leadership.
