Maine colleges are spending more and more on legal fees and lobbying

As colleges and universities across Maine confront increasing federal inquiries and regulatory pressure, as well as a number of lawsuits, some have seen federal lobbying costs and legal expenses skyrocket to the highest levels on record, according to a review by The Maine Monitor of schools’ tax returns and lobbying disclosures.
