Maine Astronaut Jessica Meir Set for 7th Spacewalk
NASA said the 6.5-hour outing will replace a spacecraft docking aid and add jumper cables for station data-relay systems.
- On Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot conducted an all-female spacewalk outside the International Space Station, marking the sixth such mission in history.
- The excursion marked the seventh career spacewalk for veteran astronaut Meir and the third for Adenot, who two weeks ago became the first French woman to perform an extravehicular activity.
- During the mission, the pair replaced a navigational retroreflector on the Harmony module, installed data-relay jumper cables, and swapped a high-definition camera on the station's truss.
- Late in the six-hour, 49-minute EVA, Adenot reported restricted mobility in her left shoulder; Meir assisted in inspecting the suit, and both astronauts returned safely to the Quest airlock.
- This operation represents the 284th spacewalk conducted at the International Space Station since 1998, continuing a recent series of maintenance efforts aimed at modernizing the aging orbital outpost.
