B.C. Lions Release Canadian Defensive Back Josh Hagerty Following Suspension
The team said his conduct fell short of organizational standards after a review of the incident that led to a two-game CFL suspension.
- On Tuesday, the BC Lions released defensive back Josh Hagerty following a two-week review of his conduct during his two-game CFL suspension.
- The CFL suspended Hagerty on Sept. 17 for repeatedly striking Montreal Alouettes running back Liam Talbot in the groin during a Sept. 12 game; Talbot required surgery.
- General manager Ryan Rigmaiden met with Hagerty and his representatives during the review process. Rigmaiden stated, "His actions were inconsistent with the standards expected of a BC Lion."
- Talbot, 23, was placed on the six-game injury list and is not expected to return this season. Montreal defensive back Don Callis and Lions defensive back Ronald Kent Jr. also received one-game suspensions.
- Hagerty joined the CFL in 2021 after playing for the Saskatchewan Huskies. He previously played for Toronto and Edmonton, winning a Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2022.
