Today, the Red Cross announced its facilitation of the handover to Lebanon of four persons and five persons yesterday, released from Israel, while President Joseph Awn commended the efforts of the International Commission and the United States in releasing the detainees.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that it had facilitated the transfer of five persons who had been released from Israeli centres to Lebanon, at the request of the parties concerned, and explained that one person had been transferred on Thursday, while the other four had been transferred on Friday, taking into account their safety and dignity.
The US State Department confirmed that the release of the Lebanese prisoners to Israel was the result of an American mediation between the two countries, noting that the issue of the prisoners was raised during the recent Rome talks between Lebanon and Israel.
