Latvian man extradited to UK and charged over death of schoolboy in Coventry
Prosecutors say 23-year-old Dolars Aleksanders was extradited from Latvia after a police investigation found enough evidence to charge him.
Dolars Aleksanders has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following his extradition from Latvia, West Midlands Police confirmed regarding the fatal collision that killed 12-year-old Keaton Slater in Coventry.
The charges follow an investigation into the June 2024 hit-and-run on Radford Road that killed Schoolboy Keaton; Aleksanders allegedly fled to Latvia following the incident, prompting an international search by authorities.
CPS West Midlands worked alongside the National Crime Agency and Europol to secure the extradition; Aleksanders was flown into Gatwick Airport on August 5 before being transferred to a West Midlands custody block.
Aleksanders was remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court today, August 6; Ben Samples of the Crown Prosecution Service said, "Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court."
Specially trained officers continue to support Keaton's parents, who have been fully updated throughout the legal developments; Police expressed gratitude for the patience shown by the family and the public during the investigation.
