Killer pleads not guilty to Belmarsh guard attack
On Monday, 41-year-old Simon Levy appeared via videolink at Westminster Magistrates' Court to enter not guilty pleas for assaulting a prison guard at HMP Belmarsh.
Prosecutors allege that on February 18, Levy "attacked him with a pen, stabbing him multiple times to the arm and neck" during a meeting with guard Paul Dunne while in custody.
After Dunne fell to the floor, Levy allegedly "grabbed the officer around the throat" and tightened his grip, forming the basis for the intentional strangulation charge.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram transferred the case to the Inner London Crown Court with a hearing scheduled for September 14, while defense lawyer Jason Lartey denied the charges.
Levy, formerly of Tottenham, is serving a whole life prison term handed down last week for murdering grandmother Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and mother-of-four Sheryl Wilkins last year.
Simon Levy, a 41-year-old Englishman who was sentenced to life in prison last week for the murder of two women and the rape of a third, was charged on Monday with assaulting a prison guard at Belmarsh Prison. He allegedly stabbed the victim with a pen and then tried to strangle him. The incident took place in February.
The violent inmate allegedly attacked a prison guard with a pen and then strangled him. Simon Levy has already been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of two women.
