Kishau Dam pact to boost irrigation, water security in UP, says Yogi
- The Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project, costing nearly Rs 15,000 crore, was agreed upon by the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Haryana in a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
- The dam, to be built on the Tons River in Uttarakhand, will be 236 metres high with a 660 MW hydroelectric capacity and aims to provide irrigation and increase water flow to the Yamuna, benefiting multiple states with specific water allocations.
- Ninety percent of the water component cost will be covered by the Centre, with the remaining costs shared by the states; Himachal Pradesh will surrender its water share to Delhi and Rajasthan, who will cover its power component costs.
- The project requires significant rehabilitation as approximately 2,950 hectares will be submerged, impacting 17 villages and around 5,500 people; it will move to Union Cabinet approval for implementation.
