King County Lifts Burn Ban | Department of Local Services
Cooler weather and higher humidity lowered wildfire risk, allowing small recreational and yard debris fires to resume under local rules.
- Fire officials in Clallam County, Pierce County, King County, and Skagit County lifted outdoor burn bans for unincorporated areas on Thursday, Oct. 1, ending restrictions at 12:01 a.m.
- Recent cooler temperatures, increased humidity, and anticipated precipitation reduced wildfire risks, prompting Fire Marshal Eric Urban and other county officials to lift the restrictions.
- Residents may resume small recreational and yard debris fires provided they follow strict safety requirements: fires must not exceed 3 feet in diameter and remain at least 25 feet from structures.
- Outdoor debris burning remains prohibited in urban growth areas including Port Angeles, Sequim, Carlsborg, Forks, Joyce, Clallam Bay, and Sekiu, and residents must avoid burning garbage or household trash.
- Residents should verify specific burn rules with their local jurisdiction before burning, as city requirements may differ, and officials ask everyone to continue making safe, responsible choices.
