John Rave hits bases-clearing double in 7-run 8th and Royals beat Athletics 9-7
John Rave’s pinch-hit double capped a seven-run eighth as Kansas City erased a 5-2 deficit and won its third straight.
On Wednesday, the Kansas City Royals rallied past the Athletics 9-7, with John Rave delivering a tiebreaking, bases-clearing double during a seven-run eighth inning in Kansas City.
Starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs departed with a 5-2 lead after working 5 2/3 innings for the Athletics, leaving Kansas City trailing by three runs entering the eighth.
Kyle Isbel's run-scoring single brought the Royals within 5-4, and Isaac Collins tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino added key hits to extend the lead.
The Athletics have now lost 16 of 20 games overall, dropping the first three of their four-game series in Kansas City. Jeff McNeil and Zack Gelof each drove in two runs but could not prevent the loss.
