Bobby Witt Jr. Homers and Scores 4 Runs in Royals’ 9-5 Win over the Athletics
Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as Kansas City scored early and often against Oakland.
On Monday, the Kansas City Royals defeated the Athletics 9-5, led by Bobby Witt, who hit a two-run home run and scored four times. Witt's 15th home run of the season traveled an estimated 390 feet to left-center field.
After Jeff McNeil homered on the first pitch, the Royals rallied when Maikel Garcia hit an RBI single and Salvador Perez added a two-run single. Kyle Isbel contributed a run in the third inning.
Athletics pitchers struggled as Mason Barnett gave up six earned runs over 2 2/3 innings. Tommy White hit a 401-foot solo shot and Brian Serven added a two-run homer, but the Athletics could not overcome the deficit.
Jac Caglianone provided insurance with two RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings. Steven Cruz earned his fourth save of the season, securing the win after Lucas Erceg failed to record an out and loaded the bases.
The Athletics and Royals meet again on Tuesday. RHP Jack Perkins will start for the Athletics with a 7.27 ERA, while LHP Daniel Lynch takes the mound for the Royals with a 2.88 ERA.
