JioHotstar Expands International Footprint with MENA Launch
The service will reach more than 500 million monthly active users through a dedicated Starzplay section with multilingual Indian films, shows and originals.
- On Tuesday, JioHotstar launched in the Middle East and North Africa through a partnership with Abu Dhabi-based Starzplay, featuring a dedicated hub within the app and website.
- Reliance Industries and Disney created JioHotstar in a 2024 $8.5 billion joint venture, following earlier rollouts in the U.K., Canada, and Singapore as the company builds a global streaming platform.
- The service offers 300,000 hours of programming in 19 languages, with new originals available in up to 10 audio languages. Access starts at $9.50 monthly through Starzplay's Plus plan; the Max plan adds sports rights for $13.60.
- Starzplay CEO Maaz Sheikh described the partnership as a "strategic investment" that extends their connection with South Asian viewers. Amit Malhotra, head of international business at JioStar, added that MENA is a "crucial next market."
- Viewers gain access to major reality formats, including "Bigg Boss" and "Koffee With Karan," alongside AI-driven personalization features. JioHotstar continues experimenting with interactive formats as it competes in the region's fragmented streaming market.
