Iran says it will reply to US response on Hormuz proposal once review over
Iran says it received an inadequate U.S. reply and will answer through intermediaries after presenting seven conditions on reopening the waterway.
- On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told reporters in Tehran that Iran is reviewing the United States' response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
- Qatar, Pakistan, and Iraq have mediated efforts to end the conflict that began with United States and Israeli strikes in Feb, though the military reinstated a naval blockade of Iranian ports after the ceasefire collapsed in July.
- President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the blockade "will remain in full force and effect," noting 22 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Oct. 7 without Iranian involvement.
- Iranian officials, including Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei, rejected the United States position, while Baghaei warned that security will not return while Washington maintains its blockade and economic pressure.
- Rezaei warned that if Washington launches further aggression, American assets could be targeted, claiming United States-linked technology infrastructure worth more than $2 trillion could be hit if the conflict restarts.
