PC Shipments Fall 20.1 Percent in “Sharpest Decline” Since Q1 2023

Apple’s share rose to 9.5% as IDC said worldwide PC shipments fell 20.1% and inventory pull-ins and supply constraints weakened demand.

  • Worldwide PC shipments plunged 20.1% to 62.7 million units in Q3 2026, according to The International Data Corporation, though Apple increased its market share to 9.5% despite shipping fewer Macs.
  • Vendors and channels loaded up on inventory early in the year to beat price hikes, which IDC research director Jitesh Ubrani noted disrupted typical seasonal patterns where Q3 normally outpaces Q2.
  • Lenovo led the market with 14.9 million shipments and 23.8% share, while HP recorded the steepest decline at 30.9%, and Dell captured 7.6 million units with a 12.1% share.
  • "Channels are now worried about carrying too much inventory," Ubrani said, adding that promotions may emerge but prices will remain well above year-ago levels.
  • Micron's CEO warned last week that the AI-driven memory shortage could persist into 2027 and 2028, with worsening macro conditions darkening the outlook for the remainder of 2026.
