New Oklahoma State Coach Eric Morris Shoots and Kills an Armadillo in His Yard
Morris said the animal was damaging his lawn and flowerbeds, and he apologized to neighbors after the gunshot.
Oklahoma State University head coach Eric Morris shot and killed an armadillo damaging his yard at 2:30 a.m. in Stillwater, sharing the story with reporters on Tuesday.
Struggling with sleep while building the new Oklahoma State program, Morris encountered the armadillo destroying his flower beds; it was his first experience with the animal, common to the region.
Morris texted neighbors, 'I apologize for the gunshot,' noting that shooting was legal in the country, and joked the incident gave new meaning to "Pistols Firing," Oklahoma State's popular slogan.
During a Tuesday press session, Morris detailed his sleepless nights managing 85 new players; he was hired to replace Mike Gundy and revive the struggling Cowboys program.
With the season opener against Tulsa set for Sept. 5, Morris remains focused on his workload as he seeks to improve on last season's 1-11 record with his overhauled roster.
