Hungary faces EU deadline to show it can root out corruption and transform

The EU says Hungary must hit 27 anti-corruption benchmarks to unlock billions in grants and loans under its rule-of-law conditions.

Hungary has until Aug. 31 to complete more than two dozen “milestones” in the rule of law. Without meeting them, the country risks losing crucial funding.
