Hundreds arrested and weapons seized at Notting Hill Carnival
Police said 560 people were arrested and 62 weapons were seized as officers used live facial recognition and stop-and-search during the festival.
On Monday, a man in his 20s died after entering a canal near Meanwhile Gardens while fleeing police officers near Harrow Road during Notting Hill Carnival.
Commander Smart, gold commander for the Notting Hill Festival, said the death is "tragic" and confirmed the Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the circumstances.
Police reported 315 arrests on Monday, bringing the two-day total to 560, while officers identified 48 individuals using live facial recognition and seized 62 weapons across both days.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Notting Hill Carnival featured parades and live music; Councillor Elizabeth Campbell praised the event's "fantastic" atmosphere and collaborative effort to ensure safety.
The Metropolitan Police issued an urgent appeal to find Shawn, an eight-year-old boy separated from his parents on Monday, last seen just before 5pm on Wedlake Street near Kensal Road.
