Gimmick or Game Changer? Chinese Smart Device Maker Honor Launches ‘Robot Phone’
The flagship Android phone uses a 3-axis gimbal arm for steadier video, better selfies and low-light photos, Honor said.
Honor officially launched its Robot Phone in China today, featuring a unique mechanical gimbal camera system that retracts into the device's chassis.
After previews at MWC and CES earlier this year, Honor CEO James Li positioned the device as innovation beyond traditional design, stating "not every phone should be just another black slab."
The Robot Phone packs flagship-level specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and a 6.31-inch OLED display with a 7,060mAh battery.
Co-Developed with ARRI, the gimbal system is 65% more compact than traditional components and offers professional cinema controls; however, IP54 protection does not apply when the gimbal is raised.
Honor has no immediate plans for international release, and potential buyers face significant gambles regarding repair costs and durability of moving parts outside the one-year warranty.
