Prison Officer and Inmate Shared Thousands of Messages on Snapchat, Court Told
The pair exchanged more than 5,000 Snapchat messages, and prosecutors said deleted material suggests they shared sexual images.
Former custody officer Jade Morris and inmate Jerome Nunes face sentencing today at Birmingham Crown Court after Morris admitted misconduct in public office and encouraging Nunes to use a prohibited device.
The illicit relationship surfaced after Nunes threw a banned mobile phone from his cell at HMP Long Lartin in October 2022, prompting police to discover the pair exchanged more than 5,000 illicit Snapchat messages.
Evidence recovered included around 100 WhatsApp messages and 23 files, with Morris saving the contact as "Ghost." Prosecutor Cathlyn Orchard stated it was "implicit that they must have been sharing sexual images."
Defence lawyer Matthew Bolt argued Nunes, freed nearly two years ago, could be spared an immediate prison sentence, while Morris's counsel said she is "extremely ashamed and embarrassed of her behaviour."
Nunes, with 23 previous convictions for 31 offences, was serving a drugs conspiracy sentence imposed at Cardiff Crown Court in 2019 and pleaded guilty earlier this year to possessing an unauthorised mobile phone.
