Snap Specs Launch LIVE: Everything You Need to Know About Snapchat's New AR Glasses
Evan Spiegel will preview the next-generation Specs, which investors see as a possible long-term growth driver beyond advertising.
On Wednesday, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel officially launched the new "Specs" augmented reality glasses in Los Angeles, priced at $2,195 after 11 years of development.
The launch follows two generations of AR prototypes released to developers in 2021 and 2024; smart glasses shipments grew 35% in 2026 while Meta claims 70% market dominance.
Snap also debuted "Specs Intelligence," an anticipatory AI service for iPhone and Mac, alongside a cellular carrying case bundled with glasses for $2,395 total.
Investor enthusiasm pushed Snap shares 16.2% above the 50-day SMA; the company opens a demo experience at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles on October 1.
Unlike competitors partnering with eyewear brands, Spiegel intends to reduce the glasses' weight independently, maintaining that capability is "most important" for determining user adoption long-term.
