Gunmen jailed for 34 years for killing gangland figure

- On Tuesday, a Melbourne court sentenced Jaeden Tito and Rabii Zahabe to 34 years in prison for murdering 50-year-old underworld figure Gavin Preston outside a cafe in broad daylight.
- The Sydney-based duo traveled to Keilor to execute the 'meticulously planned' hit, firing seven times at Preston while he sat at Sweet Lulu's cafe on September 9, 2023.
- Investigators linked Tito and Zahabe to the murder through a wealth of DNA evidence left in pre-positioned stolen getaway cars; failed destruction attempts preserved crucial forensic evidence at both scenes.
- The pair were also convicted of attempted murder of Abbas Maghnie, with Justice O'Connell granting non-parole periods of 26 and 27 years respectively, citing their 'very high moral culpability.'
- While those who ordered the contract killing remain unknown, Preston had feuded with underworld figures including George Marrogi and the Comanchero; authorities continue investigating the source of the order.
