Gophers women's basketball has high expectations for 2026-27
The Gophers return their top three scorers and add freshmen and transfers as they target another NCAA berth and a higher seed.
Minnesota women's basketball eyes another NCAA tournament run, beginning the 2026-27 campaign Nov. 2 against Harvard at Williams Arena under Head coach Dawn Plitzuweit.
Last April, Minnesota finished 15th in the final Associated Press poll with a 24-9 record, earning the program's first NCAA tournament berth since 2018 and reaching the Sweet 16.
Despite losing Amaya Battle and Sophie Hart, the Gophers return top scorers Mara Braun, Tori McKinney, and Grace Grohoski, while adding transfers Gracie Merkel and Tayla Thomas to bolster depth.
At the Big Ten's media day Wednesday in Rosemont, Ill., McKinney expressed confidence, stating, 'It's taking that momentum into this season and seeing what we can do with it.'
Competing in the 18-team Big Ten will challenge the Gophers, but Braun is shooting for 'even further' success, believing 'everyone can be a threat out there' on the roster.
