South Korea's stock market is taking a turn after the crash in July, the Kospi shoots up. Samsung and SK Hynix are driving the recovery – but that's risky.
The South Korean stock market showed solid gains again on Thursday. Major South Korean chip manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix rose sharply, in particular, thanks to the continued recovery in the chip sector. In July, chip stocks and the Seoul stock market suffered a sharp decline due to concerns about high investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and high share valuations in the tech and chip sectors.
Global Market: SK Hynix, Samsung lead South Korea stocks higher on AI boost
South Korean shares surged, with the Kospi rising 3.73% to a three-week high, led by chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. Gains followed overnight strength in US AI stocks and reports of Temasek investments. Foreign investors bought $778.5 million of equities, while the won strengthened 0.38% against the dollar.
