Expired Products, Unhygienic Conditions: Karnataka FDA Uncovers Violations at Several Ice Cream Units
Officials found expired ingredients and poor hygiene at several units, and 70 samples were sent to government laboratories for analysis.
On Thursday, The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department officials raided 45 ice cream manufacturing units, reporting expired ingredients and poor hygienic conditions during the special inspection drive.
In recent months, the FSDA has expanded oversight of food storage facilities across Karnataka, including five-star hotels and restaurants, before targeting ice cream production units to ensure safety compliance.
Officials collected 70 samples for laboratory testing; raids allegedly revealed expired products at Savara Ice Cream Cafe in Jayanagar and M N Enterprises in Bilekahalli, alongside labelling deficiencies at John Candy Ice Cream Manufacturing Unit in Mysuru.
The FSDA seized products worth Rs 20,000 from John Candy, and the department stated that appropriate legal action will follow for violations found under the Standards Act.
Special inspection drives will continue across the state to protect public health, following a push by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare to improve hygiene standards in food manufacturing.
