FO says Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye move to implement Makkah defence pact
- On Friday, Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan announced that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye are implementing the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement , with a "substantial number" of Pakistani forces already deployed in the Kingdom.
- Signed on August 7, the trilateral security framework established a collective defense pact stipulating that an armed attack against any one of the three nations is considered an attack on all.
- Khan emphasized that protecting approximately 2.5 million Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia is a priority amid rising Houthi attacks, while refuting speculative reports that Pakistani fighter jets conducted cross-border operations in Yemen.
- Following a Riyadh meeting on Monday, the Strategic Political and Defence Committee approved measures to strengthen military integration and readiness, clarifying that deployed resources are utilized strictly to safeguard Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity.
- Pakistan continues to advocate for de-escalation and diplomacy to resolve regional tensions, while maintaining that any future operational deployments will be determined by the alliance's headquarters rather than individual nations.
