PM Shehbaz Urges Houthis to Cease Attacks on Saudi Arabia
Pakistan said its commitment to Saudi sovereignty is resolute and that its forces and Turkiye are supporting operations against Houthi attacks, officials said.
- On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan's "resolute" commitment to Saudi Arabia's sovereignty under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, supporting the kingdom's right to defend its people and infrastructure.
- The pledge follows Houthi attacks on October 6 and October 7 targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport, which killed three people and wounded 28.
- Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that Pakistan and Turkiye are providing reconnaissance and other support as Islamabad, Riyadh, and Ankara agreed to ensure the "rapid deployment" of military forces.
- Shehbaz demanded the Houthi militia "immediately cease these attacks," while commending the "vigilance and professionalism of the Saudi armed forces" for intercepting multiple ballistic missiles.
- Pakistani and Turkish militaries maintain a presence in the region serving a supportive role, with Asif stating they are providing any assistance the Saudi military needs.
