A 38-year-old member of the volunteer fire brigade died north of Arles in southern France during work to prevent forest fires. He was driving alone in a fire truck specially designed for fighting forest fires and veered off the road, French media report. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

The victim was going to refuel a tank truck when she completed a road exit, the causes of which are not determined.
It is the fourth firefighter who has died since the beginning of July 2026.
Corporal Laurent Manson, from the fire and rescue centre in Saint-Étienne-du-Grès, lost his life "in the performance of his duties", after leaving his vehicle of intervention.
