There is still a huge gap between Germany's western and eastern states in terms of inheritances and gifts, according to recent data from the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis.
In the West, more than four times as much is passed on and passed on over the allowances per head as in the East.
New Destatis figures show an enormous east-west gap in inheritances and gifts. In the west, 2100 euros were transferred per capita in 2025.
The gap between East and West, for example, is reflected in the inheritance tax. Of the 21 billion euros, only one billion occurred last year in the five East German countries as well as in Berlin.
