Jehovah's Witnesses have announced a change in the guidelines on the use of blood in medical treatments. From now on, each faithful person may decide, according to his own conscience, whether or not to receive blood components donated by other people. The amendment, announced on Friday, also allows members to decide whether to donate blood for use in third-party treatments. The prohibition of total blood transfusions, however, remains.
His doctrine on blood is based on his interpretation of different biblical passages, including the command to “abstain from blood” in the Bible.
