Ema Raises $77M to Replace Traditional Software Licenses With AI Agents
The startup said revenue grew 50-fold in two years and bookings topped $150 million as customers expand use across dozens of workflows.
- The Mountain View-headquartered startup Ema raised $77 million in a Series B round led by Bengaluru-based venture firm Creaegis, with existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus increasing their stakes.
- Founded in 2023 by former Google and Coinbase executive Surojit Chatterjee and ex-Okta executive Souvik Sen, Ema has grown to nearly 200 employees across offices in Bengaluru, London, and Vancouver.
- Ema first "wraps" around an enterprise's existing applications, Chatterjee said, before customers can reduce dependence on legacy software. The company maintains gross margins of close to 80% and a net dollar retention rate around 180%.
- Revenue bookings have surpassed $150 million with major customers including Google, Microsoft, PwC, KPMG, ADP, Hitachi, Wipro, and NTT DATA. Chatterjee stated that more than 90% of customers have expanded beyond their initial use case.
- While major AI labs like Anthropic and OpenAI push into enterprise markets, Chatterjee said Ema benefits from frontier model progress. The startup focuses on domain knowledge and orchestration needed to automate business processes end-to-end.
