EDITORIAL: Budget bill puts Hawaii SNAP in peril

The “one big, beautiful” budget bill signed into law on July 4 is a monstrous thing, both in complexity and in effect. It hacks safety net programs for poor people while permanently cutting taxes for the wealthiest, and enshrines thousands of convoluted new rules, some that take effect right away and others that phase in through 2028.
