The crew members were suspected of ‘criminal conspiracy’ with drug traffickers. They were on board two of the eight boats that the US attacked in the Pacific between August 28 and September 16: the Mariá Candelaria and the Conquista II.
Following their acquittal, the persons concerned contemplate legal actions against the judicial authorities to demand that the destruction of their work tools and the illegal detention suffered during naval interceptions prior to their surrender to Ecuador be investigated.
A judge declared 32 crew fishermen from two of the U.S.-attacked boats in the Pacific Ocean, who had previously been prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office for alleged illegal association with criminal groups, innocent.
