GP jailed for sexually assaulting crash victims
The jury convicted Muhammed Iqbal after two women said he assaulted them during medical examinations arranged by insurance firms.
On Friday, GP Muhammed Iqbal was jailed for 18 months at Newcastle Crown Court after being convicted of sexually assaulting two women during medical examinations.
Insurance companies employed Iqbal to conduct medical reports for accident victims in Darlington and Sunderland. Despite denying the charges, the 64-year-old was convicted following a trial last month.
During appointments, Iqbal groped one victim's breast while falsely claiming he needed to examine the second victim for "checking for lumps," despite this being unrelated to her consultation.
Judge Edward Bindloss condemned the attacks as "deplorable," stating they breached the physician-patient bond. Northumbria Police Sergeant Kimberley Ball praised the victims for their "bravery and courage" in reporting the crimes.
Iqbal was placed on the Sex Offender Register for 10 years and will be struck off by the GMC, ensuring he will never practice medicine again.
