- On Friday, the Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth Rs 1,577 crore with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited in New Delhi for Loiter Munition Systems for the Indian Army, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
- The Ministry processed this acquisition under the Buy category through the Fast Track Procedure, aiming to bolster domestic manufacturing and support the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to strengthen India's defence industrial base.
- TASL, the L-1 vendor, will supply 54 systems and 540 munitions for Rs 1,013.77 crore, while L-2 vendor NIBE provides 30 systems and 300 munitions for Rs 563.36 crore, ensuring 60% overall indigenous content across materials, components and software.
- The 84 systems and 840 munitions will enhance the Army's precision-strike capability at ranges up to 100 km, bridging a gap currently dependent on BrahMos missiles for targets beyond the 40-50 km range.
- Equipment delivery is scheduled within 12 months from the advance payment date, expanding on Phase-I efforts that already operationalized loiter munition systems for select Artillery Regiments under this initiative.
