DCI Arrested Suspect in Brutal Murder of Molo Student Joy Wangui

Detectives said the victim’s boyfriend was traced to a hideout after a manhunt and will face murder charges as investigators probe a possible relationship dispute.

  • On Tuesday, police arrested 23-year-old Walter Kipkoech in Lagwenda, Kuresoi North, for the murder of 18-year-old Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School, following a sustained manhunt.
  • Detectives are pursuing a relationship dispute as the primary motive, alleging Kipkoech killed Wangui after accusing her of cheating. He reportedly acted in anger after she resisted his moves, police said.
  • Investigators recovered an axe, a panga, and two knives at the scene in Kiambaa, Moto Location. A blood-stained message scrawled on the wall read, "I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry."
  • Currently detained at Molo Police Station, Kipkoech faces murder charges while undergoing processing. Police confirmed he was arrested wearing a blood-stained white T-shirt bearing the deceased's name at the hem.
  • The DCI expressed condolences to the family, noting the agency remains committed to investigating domestic disputes amid growing concerns over violence against women and girls in the region.
