Ex-West Ham Co-Chairman Sues BBC for More than £150m over 'Defamatory' Claims
Sullivan says the BBC and The Times published false allegations that damaged his reputation, as his lawyers seek more than £150 million in damages.
- On Thursday, former West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan filed a High Court claim against the BBC for more than £150 million in damages over a Panorama documentary alleging sexual misconduct.
- In June, the BBC and The Times jointly published accounts from seven women claiming Sullivan engaged in sexually exploitative behaviour during the 1980s and 1990s when he owned the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport newspapers.
- Sullivan has stated he "categorically denies" the allegations, describing them as "factually incorrect and entirely false, decades-old allegations concerning my personal life." He resigned as West Ham's joint chairman shortly before the claims became public.
- Essex Police confirmed it received contact following the publication and launched ongoing inquiries, while The Independent Football Regulator stated in August its investigations into Sullivan's suitability under the Owners, Directors and Senior Executives regime remained active and ongoing.
- Sullivan remains West Ham's second-largest shareholder with a 40 per cent stake, recently increased from 38.8 per cent, maintaining significant influence at the club amid the legal battle.
