Balad official to Haaretz: Disqualified party leader to drop Knesset candidacy
Sami Abu Shehadeh's decision comes after Supreme Court President Isaac Amit suggested that justices are inclined to uphold his disqualification last month by the Central Elections Committee
Balad Party leader Sami Abu Shehadeh decided not to participate in the elections before the Israeli Supreme Court's ban. While Balad clarified that this was not a withdrawal, according to KAN, Hadash and Taal pledged to add a Balad candidate to the Joint List in place of Abu Shehadeh.
The Joint List received the signal from the Supreme Court, and decided that Sami Abu Shehadeh would resign from the Knesset. This effectively eliminates the need for the High Court to issue a ruling.
