Trump: I could have done ‘bad things’ to Hillary Clinton, Biden, Obama
Trump said he spared rivals because he respects the presidency, even as he warned Democrats could move to impeach him again.
- On Wednesday, President Donald Trump claimed in the Oval Office he 'could have done very bad things' to former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and former President Joe Biden, but refrained out of respect for the presidency.
- Trump's remarks followed a question from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy regarding whether Democrats would impeach him if they regain control of Congress in the midterm elections.
- Asserting his authority, the president added, 'I can do whatever I want, if I want,' while criticizing the two previous impeachment efforts against him by the House of Representatives.
- Criticism emerged quickly as lawyer Aaron Parnas posted on X that 'this is not a normal thing for a president to say,' highlighting concerns about executive power.
- Democrats have remained largely non-committal about pursuing a third impeachment effort, prioritizing economic concerns over political retaliation as they campaign for midterm elections.
