Marcus Mariota to Start for Commanders Against Colts in London with Jayden Daniels Ruled Out
Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns in last week’s win over Seattle and will start again as Jayden Daniels remains sidelined with an elbow injury.
- On Friday, Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn ruled out quarterback Jayden Daniels for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts in London due to a dislocated left elbow, confirming veteran Marcus Mariota will make his second consecutive start.
- Daniels opted for rehabilitation over surgery after sustaining the injury during Washington's Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a recurring problem—he dislocated the same left elbow last November and missed three games.
- Mariota completed 19 of 31 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns in last week's 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks, while Daniels participated in limited practice this week wearing a protective brace.
- Colts head coach Shane Steichen is preparing for both quarterbacks, noting their shared mobility requires disciplined defensive rush lanes as the 1-2 teams face off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
- Commanders officials remain optimistic Daniels could return for Week 5 against the New York Giants on October 11, though an offseason medical procedure is still viewed as likely.
