Man Arrested After Glasgow Anti-Immigration Protest Involving Masked Group
Police said the junction reopened after masked protesters blocked roads and chanted anti-immigration slogans, while officers kept a presence in the area.
On Wednesday, police locked down Parkhead Cross in Glasgow's East End following an anti-immigration protest, closing surrounding streets including Tollcross Road and Duke Street.
Footage posted on Facebook showed the group chanting "our streets" and "send them home" as they marched through Shettleston before being stopped at the junction near The Forge Shopping Centre.
Police Scotland confirmed one man was arrested for an alleged police assault, while one masked protester was carried into a police van amid multiple riot vans lining the street.
Glasgow City Council confirmed Parkhead Cross reopened to traffic, though a police presence remains in the area; politicians condemned the demonstration as having "no place in modern Scotland."
SNP MSP David Linden said racial hatred "will not be tolerated," while Scottish Labour MSP Glasgow Paul Sweeney added that intimidating communities is "unacceptable" for organized groups.
