BYD Targets More than 2.5 Million Vehicle Exports in 2027, Brokerages Say

The automaker raised overseas sales guidance to 1.9 million-2.0 million vehicles this year as exports more than doubled in August.

  • On Tuesday, BYD set an ambitious target to exceed 2.5 million overseas vehicle sales in 2027, according to two major brokerages citing a management briefing. The move accelerates the Chinese automaker's expansion beyond China, where fierce price wars have eroded profitability.
  • Following an investor briefing on Monday, Deutsche Bank Research reported that BYD raised its 2026 overseas sales guidance to between 1.9 million and 2.0 million vehicles, up from the 1.5 million target set in March.
  • Localized manufacturing helps BYD avoid Europe's roughly 27% and Brazil's 34% import tariffs, representing savings of more than $5,961 per vehicle, Citi said. The company is evaluating additional overseas production sites to reduce tariff exposure.
  • Despite currency headwinds, international profitability is guided at around $2,980 per vehicle, Deutsche Bank said. BYD is addressing shipping constraints through an expanded fleet of dedicated car carriers and localized manufacturing.
  • BYD plans to build 90,000 flash-charging stations by 2028, including 6,000 in overseas markets, to support its expansion. The company expects to resolve second-generation blade battery capacity constraints by the first quarter of 2027.
