The federal government expects a surplus of about 0.8 billion Swiss francs this year. The budget had projected a deficit of just over 0.7 billion Swiss francs. On Wednesday, the Federal Council was briefed on the first projection for 2026.
The Federal Council announced on Wednesday a surplus of 0.8 billion francs for the 2026 budget as it was initially counting on a deficit. As a result, the national government requested an additional appropriation for the army.
For the current year, the federal government expects a net financing surplus of just under 0.8 billion Swiss francs. A deficit of about 0.7 billion Swiss francs was budgeted.
