Boy, 13, missing after going swimming in the sea
Police and coastguard teams are using helicopters, lifeboats and drones in an extensive search operation after reports the boy got into difficulty while swimming.
On Tuesday, Humberside Police launched an extensive search for a 13-year-old boy who reportedly got into difficulty while swimming off Hornsea's South Promenade after emergency services received reports at approximately 6pm.
Specialized assets including POLSA, the Marine Unit, and drone pilots joined HM Coastguard and Bridlington RNLI lifeboat crews to scour the coastline and locate the missing boy.
Chief Superintendent Phil Booker urged the public to avoid the South Promenade area to allow emergency services to work safely, asking anyone with information to contact police via 101, quoting log 415 of 4 August.
National Water Safety Forum data shows 202 water-related fatalities occurred across the UK last year, underscoring persistent risks of open-water swimming and reinforcing the need for caution near coastal areas during summer months.
