2027 BMW I3 Production Begins in Munich After Strong Early Demand for Neue Klasse Sedan
BMW is ramping up the Neue Klasse sedan after strong demand pushed orders open months early, with series production reaching a record pace.
- BMW began series production of the new i3 at BMW Plant Munich in Germany, opening orders early due to stronger-than-expected demand.
- The i3 is BMW's second Neue Klasse model, following the iX3. Last week, BMW announced it had built the 50,000th iX3 at its Debrecen facility, marking the fastest ramp-up at a new BMW plant to date.
- Powered by a 108.7 kWh battery and Gen6 eDrive system, the i3 offers a WLTP range of up to 566 miles. The electric sedan features 800V architecture, adding nearly 250 miles of range in about 10 minutes.
- In the U.S., the 2027 i3 will include a built-in NACS port and go on sale in early 2027, with the Launch Edition starting at $86,400.
- Sales boss Jochen Goller noted that the Neue Klasse models "are proving to be very popular," with orders on track to reach 100,000 soon.
