- The Bald Range wildfire west of Summerland has grown to 24,622 hectares, with 13 evacuation alerts and eight orders still active. The BC Wildfire Service reports 32 properties remain under evacuation orders.
- Okanagan Climate reports Summerland's year-to-date precipitation is running at around 45 per cent of the long-term average. Extremely dry fuel across the landscape has fueled the fire, which continues more than two weeks after discovery.
- Fighting the fire are 382 personnel, 15 helicopters, and 77 pieces of heavy equipment, with the BC Wildfire Service prioritizing safety along Highway 97. A thunderstorm forecast for Saturday could bring winds gusting up to 70 km/h.
- During the evacuation of more than 12,000 residents, Penticton-Summerland MLA Amelia Boultbee praised the orderly community response. She emphasized that evacuation orders exist to save lives while officials maintain 24-hour operations.
- The Province is conducting an after-action report to improve emergency management, as Boultbee noted the need for better wildfire response strategies. Future discussions will address infrastructure needs, including potential alternate routes.
